About PCs and laptops
I am writing about these things, about desktops and so on just out of interest. There are not many people interested it these matters and audience for my wrings on these topics would be small. My laptop is an ASUS model - a wonderful thing which lasted now for ~10 yrs. No repairs even after so many "insults" I have done to it.
Writing about computers - I would like to present you with my Thumb drive which can be used to carry around for meetings where one has to present papers etc. Useful as a portable device to carry files, portable drives can also be used as an installation device instead of CD or DVD. For installing like this, a special application is needed for writing the installation to the pen drive. One can make an installation pen drive by writing the .iso file on it. Linux installations are available as iso downloads or torrent files.
After downloading an iso file, you can straightaway write it using a usb writing app. Torrent is a small file which will download an iso using apps like Transmission or other bit-torrent downloaders. Once downloaded, we can write that iso into a pen drive as an installation drive - not just copying the iso into it. Installation drive making needs special writing. Once an installation pen drive is made, put that into the usb port of the computer and then boot - it will either automatically boot from pen drive or you have to go into the bios and configure the boot selector, make usb the 1st boot device and then boot - that will boot into RAM and will be now ready for installation. The age of CDs and DVDs is gone and one can live without CD or DVD drive. Even fussy Windows can be installed using pen drives. I had a huge collection of CDs and DVDs which are all now unreadable - one among them was my Cholecystectomy CD. Best place to store such things is cloud storage.
A useful thing is webapps - is present in Linux Mint Cinnamon and working beautifully. One doesn't need to open the browser fully with all extensions - the web app acts like a local application and is fast.
I rediscovered Linux Lite after the latest updates were installed. Quite fast, no hanging due to low RAM like in Mint, it has its own Clipman and has all functions working like in Mint Cinnamon; updates are easy. I may make it my default distro. Web app has to be separately installed. Also USB writer like Balena Etcher have to be separately installed.
I'm learning many things while fiddling with my laptop and mobile.
Too much content cached in mobile may affect web app whatsapp functionality- sending may be affected.
To get content in your Gdrive there are many methods. One is through the browser and then as an application. In Linux Mint the app can be installed easily. But in Linux lite only insync is suitable. But it is not free. Best way is to use browser with app or otherwise.
There is one distribution which needs special mention and that is MX Linux. It has lots of tools in it and I liked it. It auto installs and has lots of plus points and we can edit GRUB too.
